Artika is a non-profit theatre company founded by Katerina Alexaki and Marilena Triantafyllidou in July 2006. It is a member of Small size Network, and 15 years ago, begun to create theatrical performances for the early years (0-6 years old), for the first time in Greece. Throughout these years Artika has been invited to participate in international festivals in Iran, Romania, France, Italy and Hungary and is one of the 18 members of the larger scale cooperation artistic and research project “Mapping – A map on the aesthetics of performing arts for early years” (Creative Europe 2018-2022).
Part of the group’s activities is the creation of theatrical performances, art workshops, and educational programs and courses, for both adults and children. Our goal is the research and creation of new forms of expression and communication through performing arts, and in collaboration with other art forms, in Greece and abroad, that will bring the public closer to theater and art. At the same time, it is our belief that the very young ages (0 to 6 years old) are capable and sensitive citizens of this world and we cannot deny them their right to art.
Combining the above we have created a vision for a theater without signs, a theater that can be addressed to everyone regardless of age.
The team consists of artists of different specialties who work together with stability and duration over time, combining the artistic vision of the team with the personal vision of each, and with respect to relationships and interaction. At the same time, we collaborate with individual artists depending on the needs of each artistic project.
In 2020-2021, Artika has been sponsored by the Ministry of Culture for its new production titled “A wonderful day”, a show for adults to be seen together with their children that will premiere in Hamm, Germany in summer of 2021. This show is a co-production with other European companies and is a part of the European Program, Mapping. The show is going to be presented in Greece, in the fall of 2021, while also it is going to tour in various international festivals.
